FeminEQ Philosophy
Yw are guided to appreciate afresh the wonders of the masterpiece that is the female body. The body is presented as beautiful and creative. They are also encouraged to appreciate themselves beyond bodily functions. FeminEQ, by affirming womanhood, taps into the natural emotional intelligence of budding yw.
What happens during these workshops?
The FeminEQ approach is holistic and interactive. Womanhood is defined in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.
Intake per workshop is restricted to a small number of participants (max 12), to facilitate participatory involvement. They are engaged in activities like discussions, small group work, journaling, and games.
The workshops are conducted in a relaxed informal manner. After group contracting and trust building exercises, the emphasis shifts to the self of the yw with self esteem training, then centers on womanhood.
There are no long boring lectures. Each yw is issued with a dual purpose manual. It is a record of the contents covered in the workshop as well as a tool of self authorship as yw are guided to write about themselves.
Frequently asked questions about the workshops
Q. Will information about sex not encourage my daughter to start experimenting sexually? A. Sexuality is a part of human life as breathing, eating, drinking and sleeping is. FeminEQ teaches young women that self respect requires self control. The values upheld in this programme are compatible with that of the family, spiritual and cultural traditions, and other wholesome influences in yw's lives.
Q. What benefits would my daughter derive from attending this programme? A. Knowledge and understanding of her body and her sexuality will increase her self acceptance and therefore her self esteem. This programme will equip her, in combination with a stable and supportive family structure, to feel proud of being a woman, and assist in protecting her from the risks of teenage pregnancy and other social problems associated with poor self image and lack of appreciation of the gift of womanhood.
The FeminEQ programme takes place during school holidays, 08h30-15h00.
